COURAGE OF THE MAKER IN ONE NECK OF WOODS

Once you have bolted from your seat,
rushed to the shallow water
in simple expectation, then you can shout:

"These are the sounds and
actions of the world that the
young woman, standing by the
sea, sings through her
brutal sieve"

Then she can begin to chart your
soul as if you could master the
night with her voice as your guide.

Now, entering the abstract room,
sitting near your imaginary culture,
you can decide:

"What I see is what is true,
and what the pen must do will
soon be fast with the wind"

Enter here, behind it.
Place the discipline of your own
imagination and leave it to
yourself to say finally out loud:

"Have I made the right choice?
Have I been both bone and
flesh? Or has my mind
been waste to cling to half-formed glories?
