It was a bright day.
Then a smudge appeared.
A smudge on the
body/spirit a smudge
we can’t wipe dry or even
dilute and the
flower guys who
walk down the middle of
four-lane thoroughfares
in between cars
selling flowers in buckets
they know.
They know that
today it’s someone’s
birthday or someone died or
some had a fight
it happens all the time.

At least Jackie O didn’t
beg for her life in the
last moments, at least
we can pet and make that grow.
